Reiki Massage

Reiki is a Japanese technique that treats the body, mind and spirit. It is based on the idea that distress in the body can be cured by increasing your body’s own life force energy. Reiki enhances your body’s own natural healing ability, allowing it to redirect the energy to where it is most needed to heal, replenish and repair. It can assist with recovery from surgery, accidents, illness and emotional distress and anxiety. It can improve circulation, joint motion, flexibility and relaxation. Reiki works on your entire system giving a sense of balance, security and well being.

Reiki is a natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and will only have a positive impact on any condition. It works alongisde all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. The best results are achieved by clients who consciously decide to heal and improve. This is where the Reiki healing experience can have lasting results, when the client commits to his or her healing and takes an active part in it.

A session of Reiki involves the client lying down in a warm, quiet, comfortable room. The session begins by the client taking some deep breaths and relaxing. The therapist will gently move around the body checking the flow of energy. The therapist may from time to time lightly place their hands on the client (head, feet, shoulders) to increase the flow and movement of heat or energy. The client may feel some general heat, tingling, or no sensation at all.

I experienced my first Reiki treatment with Anne Marie at her house. Anne Marie had been coming to my yoga classes for a while and we decided it was ‘time’ for me to try Reiki so she got me organised which was good otherwise I probably wouldn’t have tried it. The treatment was as Anne Marie described it. I did make the classic mistake of lying on my front expecting the back and shoulders massage, but actually you lay on your back. I felt very at ease which is great as it is a different practice and if you have never done one before you might feel unsure of what is coming. We had a chat at the beginning which really helped me understand what to expect. I felt the warm sensation of having the hands pass over my body and could sense why this practice moves the energy around and out of the body where needed. Anne Marie commented on other things as well such as aura, guides and she touched on symbols and how they can be used in the practice. When the practice had finished I found it VERY difficult to get off the table like I had been glued there. We finished with a chat and I picked a card from her deck of images and words. I got ‘priorities’.
I think this type of massage really would suit those who are stressed and need to take time out to relax and heal. As Anne Marie says it is great for those who have made the commitment to mend themselves or want to experience growth in an area of their lives. Interestingly after the treatment I kept thinking about things that came up, just some thoughts about areas in my life that I needed to work on. I thought that was a nice after affect of the massage.
If you haven’t tried it give it a go, the days are long but the years are short and this is an experience everyone should try at least once.
